The replacement cycle of the composite filter element in air purifiers is affected by the usage environment, frequency, and filter material. It is usually recommended to replace it every 6 months, but it needs to be flexibly adjusted according to the actual situation. The following is a specific analysis:
1、 Replacement cycle under different usage scenarios
Severely polluted environment
Families located near industrial areas, roadside areas, or areas with frequent haze have high concentrations of dust and particulate matter in the air, and composite filters are prone to clogging. It is recommended to replace the filter element every 3-4 months in such environments to ensure purification efficiency.
Large public places such as factory workshops and hotel banquet halls have higher concentrations of air pollutants, which may shorten the lifespan of filter cartridges to 2-3 months and require more frequent replacement.
Ordinary family environment
For households with good air quality and low frequency of use, the lifespan of the filter element can be appropriately extended to 6-8 months.
If someone in the home smokes, keeps pets, or has new decoration, it is necessary to shorten the replacement period to 4-6 months to avoid secondary pollution caused by filter saturation.
2、 Filter cartridge material and aging characteristics
HEPA filter
The core filter layer typically has a lifespan of 6 months to 1 year. If there is a decrease in wind speed, odor at the air outlet, or if the CADR value of particulate matter is detected to be lower than 50% of the initial value, it should be replaced in a timely manner.
When the surface turns black and there is obvious dust falling off when touched, it indicates that the filter has reached its service life limit.
Activated carbon filter screen
Adsorb gaseous pollutants such as formaldehyde and odors, with a lifespan of generally 6-9 months. After adsorption saturation, it may release an acidic odor and needs to be replaced immediately.
Regularly (such as weekly) exposing the filter element to sunlight for 2-4 hours can temporarily restore its adsorption capacity, but cannot replace it.
3、 Intelligent monitoring and auxiliary judgment
Intelligent filter replacement reminder
Some mid to high end models are equipped with a filter life monitoring function, which automatically reminds to replace the filter when there is 10% remaining. Follow the prompts.
Manual detection method
Airflow detection: If there is no significant improvement in indoor air quality within 10 minutes after turning on the air purifier, it may indicate that the filter element is clogged.
Appearance inspection of filter element: Open the filter element and observe whether it has turned black or clumped, or lightly tap with your hand to see if there is a large amount of dust falling off.
